Abstract

Plants live in close association with microbes, establishing interactions that range from beneficial to detrimental. Due to the threat for global food security, molecular plant-microbe interactions have been extensively studied in flowering plants, overlooking non-seed plant lineages. Yet, comparative analyses between diverse plant lineages are extremely powerful to understand plant evolution and reveal innovations and conserved molecular mechanisms mediating plant-microbe interactions. In the Evolution of Plant Signaling Lab we are focusing on two main research lines: the evolution of Receptor Kinases (RKs) signaling and the evolution of molecular plant-microbe interactions (EvoMPMI) in land plants. RKs are one of the largest gene families in land plants and regulate a myriad of processes from development to immunity. Combining phylogenetic analyses with functional assays in Marchantia polymorpha and Arabidopsis thaliana we aim at deciphering the evolution of the activation mechanisms of RKs complexes involved in development and immunity. Furthermore, we have identified bacterial and fungal pathogens for M. polymorpha that allow us to investigate the evolution of plant immunity in land plants.

 Isabel Monte est cheffe de groupe junior au département de physiologie végétale de l'Université de Tübingen en Allemagne. Son laboratoire s'intéresse à l'évolution moléculaire des plantes, et plus particulièrement à l'évolution des voies de signalisation des récepteurs kinases qui régulent l'immunité et le développement des plantes, en utilisant diverses espèces modèles, dont Marchantia polymorpha et Arabidopsis thaliana.
