A nuclear cameleon reveals Ca2+ spiking in the legume and non- legume root epidermis in response to both arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal contact and the application of germinated spore exudates

vignette DB
Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi are the most widespread mutualistic symbionts of terrestrial plants and provide their hosts with valuable soil nutrients as well as protection against biotic and abiotic stresses. A crucial step in establishing this important symbiosis is thought to be the specific recognition of AM fungal signals by the plant leading to the activation of signal transduction pathways necessary for regulated intracellular infection of the fungus.
